Since 2008, fans of the ever-popular MTV music countdown show have been lost without their daily afternoon escapes, led by former host Carson Daly. Now the only music countdown show on cable television is BET's 106 & Park. But, in celebration of pop princess Ariana Grande's sophomore release, the executives at MTV plan to bring back a version of the late 90s phenom called 'Total Ariana Live.'
On Wednesday, July 2 at 7pm, the TRL reprise will air on MTV with personality Sway Calloway as the host. Similar to the golden days of the show, thousands of fans are expected to fill the 1515 Broadway studio and Times Square to scream their heads off for their favorite star-- Who, in this case, will be Ariana.

"It's a huge honor to be able to bring back a show like 'TRL,' I used to love watching it growing up," Grande said in a newly released statement. "Can't wait to celebrate with my loves in Times Square. Might have some surprises too..."
Besides performing her new hit song, Problem, she will also sing her new single Break Free for the very first time. Though her core fans are extremely excited to see her bring back such an iconic program, others are not as excited and believe that it should be brought back with someone of a higher caliber.

Ariana Grande is not the person I would have picked to have on TRL if it's only coming back for one day... — Tori Furbay (@truestoryTori) June 25, 2014

Even with the mixed reviews, there has been no official word on whether or not MTV is using this as a test to possibly bring back the show. However, high ratings could definitely be motivation for the Viacom higher ups but only time will tell.
Tune into to MTV on Wednesday, July 2 to see what is sure to be a huge show!
