Tracy Morgan Accident Update: ’30 Rock’ Star's Car Accident Case Goes On With Walmart Driver Pleading 'Not Guilty' [VIDEO]
Things seem to be looking up for Tracy Morgan physically after the comedian was just moved from a New Jersey hosptial to a rehab facility, however the driver of the Walmart truck that hit Morgan's limo seems to be getting ready to fight for his freedom in court.
Morgan was critically injured in a car crash on June 7 while riding in a limo on the New Jersey Turnpike. A Walmart truck hit the limo that Morgan and his party were riding in. According to CNN at the time, Morgan suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg. Morgan's friend and fellow comedian James McNair died in the tragic crash.
The Walmart driver, Kevin Roper, has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges, which include vehicular homicide and assault by auto. Roper is currently out on a $50,000 bond.
On June 30, a new report in the Venture Capital Post said that Roper's plea of not guilty was just the first step.
"Mr. Roper has entered a plea of not guilty. It was not an artificial exercise, but rather the first step in defending the charges that have been filed against him," said David Jay Glassman, Roper's attorney.
Despite Roper's criminal case, Morgan had good news recently, professionally. On June 10, FX announced that they will wait for the former 30 Rock star to recover from his injuries. The show was set to be a half-hour comedy series from the creators of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
"The only thing we are concerned with is the health and recovery of Tracy Morgan and the victims of this tragic accident," said a statement by FX. "We will support Tracy and his family in every way possible throughout his recovery. At the point when Tracy has recovered and decides that he is ready to go back to work, his show will be waiting for him. Right now our thoughts and prayers remain with Tracy, the other victims of the accident, and their families."
Morgan's show was originally scheduled to start filming in August and was then going to debut in January on FXX.
Morgan was recently moved to a rehab facility for his injuries, but according to his rep 'still has a long way to go.' "Tracy has been transferred to an undisclosed rehab center, where he is expected to remain for the next few weeks."
