Emmy Nominations 2014 List: 'Breaking Bad,' 'Orange is the New Black,' 'Game of Thrones' Receive Top Honors [VIDEO]
The 2014 Primetime Emmy nominations were announced Thursday morning, and some of television's top shows are up for big awards.
In the Comedy Series category, the Television Academy chose to nominate The Big Bang Theory, Louie, Modern Family, Orange is the New Black, Silicon Valley and Veep. This is the first eligible year for Orange is the New Black and Silicon Valley. The other four nominees were nominated last year as well. Modern Family is the defending champion, having won four trophies in a row.
The highly competitive Drama Series category boiled down to Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Mad Men and True Detective. Breaking Bad appears to be the favorite after winning last year but True Detective is the new show on the block and could potentially spoil.
Game of Thrones led the nominations with 19 overall, including acting nominees Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Diana Rigg. Breaking Bad received 17 nominations including Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn.
In the miniseries/movie categories, American Horror Story: Coven, Fargo and The Normal Heart all have reason to celebrate. Fargo led with 18 nominations, with acting nominees that included Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman. American Horror Story: Coven received 17 nominations including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Frances Conroy. The Normal Heart dominated the Supporting Actor category, taking up four out of six nominations: Matt Bomer, Joe Mantello, Alfred Molina and Jim Parsons, in addition to nominations in Lead Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Supporting Actress for Julia Roberts.
