Fresh off an Emmy nomination for her role in American Horror Story: Coven, Sarah Paulson is promising that the upcoming installment, titled Freak Show, will live up to fans' expectations.

Paulson spoke with USA Today about the Emmy nomination she received Thursday for playing Cordelia Foxx in American Horror Story: Coven. She is nominated against her co-star Jessica Lange (who played Fiona Goode) in the Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category.

"I knew it was happening," she said of the Emmy nomination announcement. "We're in New Orleans starting to shoot. The sun was coming up and I didn't get the call and I fell back to sleep and the phone rang. The first person I heard from was the costume designer on our show. And then the phone started to explode."

As Paulson indicated, she is getting ready for a new role for American Horror Story: Freak Show. In the upcoming fourth season, she will be playing a two-headed character named Bette and Dot. The actress revealed that the season is going to be "very new" compared to what the show has done previously.

"Having read the first two scripts, it's going to be everything everyone hopes it to be and more," she said. "It's very new, and unlike anything that the show has been before. That's very exciting for us. We had hair and makeup tests yesterday. I could feel a crackling kind of excitement."

American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to premiere in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
