Earlier this month Carrie Underwood was announced as one of the headliners for this year's Global Citizen Festival, and the country singer is happy to be a part of it.

This week CMT took a closer look at Underwood's involvement with the concert, which is part of a New York City free concert campaign looking to end devastating poverty by 2030.

"I believe we all have the ability to make our world a better place," said Underwood, "Positive change is possible when we work together, and this festival is a hopeful opportunity for all of us to help see an end to extreme poverty".

Ending extreme poverty is just one thing the country star is working toward this summer. She is currently touring the country and preparing her latest album, details of which could be revealed when she returns to Nashville's Grand Ole Opry this Friday. She also celebrated her third wedding anniversary this month.

Prior to her tour, Underwood recorded the duet Somethin' Bad for Miranda Lambert's new album Platinum.

According to CMT, Lambert's not the only one eager to work with Underwood. In a Q & A last week, Florida Georgia Line admitted that they would love to collaborate with both of the female artists. For now, however, it seems they'll just have to wait while Underwood finishes her tour and releases her upcoming album.

The Global Citizen Festival will be presented as a one-hour special on NBC September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
