Weird Al Yankovic New Album 2014: Singer Releases Final Music Video On 'Mandatory Fun' [VIDEO]
Weird Al Yankovic has saturated the market recently in promotion of his new album, Mandatory Fun, but that has come to an end as of Monday.
As The AV Club reported, Yankovic's eighth, and final, music video from his new album has been released.
The video is for the song "Mission Statement," which is basically a bunch of ponderous, complicated business speak done in the style of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Fittingly enough, this particular video was released via The Wall Street Journal's video player, and it can be watched here.
Yankovic did not just release eight videos, he did it in eight days. At first, he released the videos for his song parodies, where he lampooned the likes of Pharell Williams' "Happy," Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," Lorde's Royals," and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." It was a savvy move, because it got folks who are not necessarily fans of Weird Al, but know those songs, interested. After that, he began releasing videos for his original songs, which may have been a fans only affair. Still, perhaps videos for songs like "Tacky" and "Word Crimes" hooked in some new fans.
It seems like this plan may have worked, because The Wrap reported on Saturday that Mandatory Fun is poised to be the number one album in the country this week. That would be Yankovic's first time atop the charts, which is impressive given that he released his first album way back in 1983. Weird Al has hinted that this may be his last full album, and he may just release singles from now on. If so, he's going out on a high note.
