'Mission: Impossible 5' Rumors: Female Lead Is Cast, Is Jeremy Renner Still 'Strapped?' [VIDEO]
To add to the busy 2015 blockbuster slate, Mission: Impossible 5 will be coming to theaters later that year. But who will be joining Ethan Hunt on his team in the fifth installment?
According to a previous report Deadline, The White Queen star Rebecca Ferguson will be taking over the female lead in the fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Ferguson will be seen next in Brett Ratner's Hercules movie starring Dwayne Johnson.
Additionally, Deadline also reports that 30 Rock and Blue Jasmine star Alec Baldwin is in talks to join the cast as the head of the CIA. Baldwin will next be seen in Still Alice and the untitled Cameron Crowe project which is slated to come out early next year.
With the addition of Ferguson, Cruise now has his lead female to go along with previous lead Paula Patton from Ghost Protocol. Ferguson is on the rise following her role in The White Queen and Hercules and should add some grit to the all-boys club between Cruise and Jeremy Renner.
As for Renner, the actor seems to be busy with multiple action franchises including the upcoming Avengers sequel and a possible Bourne sequel directed by Justin Lin. But in a recent interview with Yahoo TV, he seemed committed to do the next Mission: Impossible movie following his work on Avengers: Age of Ultron.
"In fact, I'm kind of strapped time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie," Renner said about joining the cast of True Detective. "It's unlikely I can find the time right now. And that's all right. It's just really high-class problems - pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to do it, which I don't, I couldn't."
While he isn't going to be on the HBO crime series, it looks like Renner will be set to re-join Cruise's team in Mission: Impossible 5.
The film hits theaters on Christmas Day 2015.
