The 27 Dresses actress opened up to Good Housekeeping and said she wanted to make her family her first priority. The actress married singer Josh Kelley in 2007 and they adopted daughter Nancy Leigh two years later. But, working on the ABC show made things difficult.
"I would come home angry and frustrated that I'd missed everything with my kid that day," she told the magazine for the September issue. "I didn't get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I'd have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up."

During that time she took a hiatus to spend months with her family. This time away from work affirmed Heigl's desire to be home.
"I felt like my priorities were messed up," she added. "I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first."
Since leaving the show, Heigl and her husband adopted a second daughter, Adalaide Marie Hope, in 2012. The family of four now resides in Utah.
She will also return to television in NBC's new political drama State of Affairs as a CIA analyst named Charlie Tucker. The show, executive produced by Heigl's mother, will premiere this fall.
