HTC One X Review, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update with One S, One XL
The popular Android smartphones, HTC One X, One S, and One XL are being upgraded to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system primed with new advancements.
"We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android," HTC said to SlashGear. "At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean."
Jelly Bean proceeds the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the newer software fixes and enhances what the former lacked.
Jelly Bean includes new features in notifications, filmstrip photo viewing, swift keyboard typing, widget resizing, more additions to Android Beam, and Google Now.
The HTC One X was the top-selling smartphone in stores until the Samsung Galaxy S3 came along. Although the new Android based phone is among the most advanced for its hot specs and features, how does AT&T's HTC One X measure up?
The HTC One X was the reigning smartphone in the Android department. However, Samsung Galaxy S3, features one of the largest and brightest screen displays and perhaps the fastest CPU/GPU combination in the market currently. It also runs on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The Korean company is also expecting to release the smartphone with 64GB of storage space.
Samsung confirmed that the 64GB model of the GALAXY S III will be available during the second half of this year, but added that "the market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release."
The HTC One X also runs on Ice Cream Sandwich. Like the Samsung Galaxy S3, the AT&T smartphone has LTE capability, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 1080p HD video, and a large display screen.
However, HTC One X has distinguishing hardware, software, and a memorable design.
"If a phone were judged by its physical design and materials alone, the One X would've been an instant winner before I ever even turned it on. It can't be overstated what a beautiful device this is," Chris Ziegler says on The Verge's HTC One X review.
The smartphone has a high-quality plastic coatings on the back and sides. It is a white, uni-body device with smooth-textured matte finishings.
The video quality of the HTC One X is also worth wanting.
"The HTC One X also comes with a Tegra 3 quad core 1.5GHz processor, which to the uninitiated is the next level of mobile power packed into a smartphone. This is backed up by 1GB of RAM, and translates into a superbly slick action under the finger," TechRadar wrote.
Pushing the hardware for better gaming graphic quality makes viewing on the device revolutionary. Adding hardware with software make HTC a big winner in the market.
"It's fast and easy to use. Combine that with the excellent hardware and you've got a handset worthy of being a flagship device for both HTC and AT&T," Wired says.
The HTC Sense 4.0 user interface makes tapping around on the flawless and without "stutters and hiccups," PCMag writes.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S3 is making waves in the smartphone department, HTC One X is still going strong in sales and may even increase with the Android Jelly Bean upgrade. However, when the iPhone 5 releases, Android phones are expected to be challenged.
Details on the iPhone 5 release date have yet to be announced.
