Diamond Interview on The Breakfast Club 2014; Former Crime Mob Member Chats With Brianna Perry About 'Sisterhood of Hip Hop' and Keyshia Cole [VIDEO]
Tonight (Aug. 12), "The Sisterhood of Hip Hop" premieres on Oxygen at 9/8c. The show follows the lives of up and coming rappers Bia, Nyemiah Supreme, Siya, Brianna Perry and established rapstress, Diamond. Unlike other reality shows with hip hop in its' title names, this show (executive produced by T.I.) will chronicle the lives of these ladies as musicians, first.
During their press tour, two of the ladies stopped by The Breakfast Club morning show to catch up with Charlamagne tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy. Per usual, the interview ended up delving into much more than their sisterhood and what they were there to promote.
Here's what we learned.
'The Sisterhood of Hip Hop' is not like other reality TV, it shows the ladies at work.
"It's more like a docuseries. It’s real TV… it’s following our journey. It’s based on the music, we are real artists." — Brianna Perry
The sound problems at Brianna's performance did not ruin her performance in the previews.
“I’m an entertainer. The sound was messed up but I still got up there, I still did my thing and you know, it is a show.”
And she's much more than just a rapper.
"I’m excited for new people to get exposed to me and my journey… I just graduated from the university of Miami, I’m excited for people to see me as a young woman and as an artist... Everything is authentic, it’s genuine. I’m not putting on act or anything else." -- Brianna Perry
Diamond did not sleep with Daniel 'Boobie' Gibson, as Keyshia Cole claimed in a recent interview.
“I was like, ‘Oh word? I’m not even going to entertain that because it’s not true and it’s negativity. Right now, it’s about ‘SisterHood of Hip Hop’ and anybody that knows me, knows that I am a good friend… He’s a super cool dude."
BUT, she is dating an NBA player.
“I have somebody in a situation on the side that still kind of is affected when people kinda put stuff out there and make it seem like it’s something. I don’t really want to bring this person to the forefront, because as you see, every week it’s something different… Yea, he plays basketball.” -- Diamond
Brianna wants to change the negative connotation of the B* Word, with her new song, here.
“It’s the ‘Beautiful Intelligent Tough Chick in Heels’. I feel like the word is used so commonly, but then it’s frowned upon. I just wanted to have a little fun with the word. You can still be classy, still be feminine and have a little fun at the same time.”
A female takeover is long overdue.
"We all learn from each other and the stories are amazing… It’s going to show [people] that there could be more than one. It’s always been more than one… They are going to see the sisterhood and unity, that there can be more than one just like it’s always more than one in the male dominated game." —Diamond
Brianna agrees.
"I feel like female rap is definitely back. You have females who are doing their thing and are on the charts. It’s just about to be a flood and the gates are about to open up, starting with us on ‘The Sisterhood of Hip Hop.’ It’s going to be an amazing time, and I think as women, we have that voice back." -- Brianna Perry
Diamond is excited about Remy Ma's return.
“She’s super cool. I actually wrote her while she was in prison and we… never really had a one on one until I wrote her in person. She’s super cool and I am excited for her… Like she said, ‘Girl Power All Day!" - Diamond
All females should put the drama aside and focus on getting more money together, just like the guys.
"We need to do more songs together and more tours together how the guys are doing to get this other kind of money, other than that, I think that we’ll be fine… You see them together in a video and they’ll be in the club together. Even if they don’t get along, at the end of the day, it’s about their check and respect."-- Diamond
