Breakfast Club Interview 2014; 'No Flex Zone' Rappers Rae Sremmurd Reveal Meaning Behind Hit Song and Talk Remix with Nicki Minaj [VIDEO]
In the latest 'Breakfast Club' interview, Charlamagne tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy introduce the rap duo Rae Sremmurd to the world. The group, signed by super-producer Mike Will Made It, has had an amazing summer with their debut single, No Flex Zone.
After Nicki Minaj, Pusha T and others jumped on the viral song, it immediately became a contender on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Charts, swiftly making its' way to the Top 20. Now, the young stars are ready to move on to their new singles and show the world why they won't just be one hit wonders.
The group consists of 19-year-old Swae Lee and 20-year-old Slim Jimmy from Tupelo, Mississippi. For those of who were wondering what in the world their name means, it's fairly simple. Rae Sremmurd is 'Ear Drummers', backwards. 'Ear Drummers' is the name of Mike Will Made It's production company... And that's what they went with.
"Nobody is ever going to be able to pronounce it until later," Mike Will explained of the groups' name. "We just thought it would be interesting."
There have been worse names. **Tity Boi comes to mind.**
After laughing at Charlamagne's follow up question to their name choice, the group members went on to describe the meaning behind what a No Flex Zone actually is. Slim Jimmy told The Breakfast Club, "The 'No Flex Zone' is [where] you keep it real with yourself and you keep it real with your people, don't come around with all that B.S... We just chillin'."
To their surprise, the Nicki Minaj and Pusha T remixes happened because each of them were fans of their song. "That was crazy, I ain't gon' lie to you," Slim Jimmy recalled. "We got like 100 notifications on Twitter, Instagram goin' crazy."
Then, Swae Lee mentioned the most important result of their new success, "We got some new girls."
The young duo is fun, ready and super excited to take the rap world by storm.
