'Mission: Impossible 5' Movie News: Ving Rhames To Return To The Franchise, Could Mean Duel-Computer Role With Simon Pegg? [VIDEO]
With most of the cast from the last Mission: Impossible movie returning, it seems like director Christopher McQuarrie will be digging even deeper into the franchise to bring back another star.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, McQuarrie announced that Ving Rhames, who was last seen in an uncredited spot in Ghost Protocol, would be returning full-time to the franchise. Rhames starred in the first three movies alongside Tom Cruise. "Welcome back, Mr. Rhames. cc: @TomCruise @simonpegg @Renner4Real #MI5Diary."
It is interesting that they would be bringing back Rhames as his character, Luther Stickell, played a similar role as Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn and work with computers and other technology to help Cruise's Ethan Hunt on his next mission. Pegg is already confirmed to re-join the cast as well.
Is Jeremy Renner Still 'Strapped' To 'Mission Impossible 5?'
McQuarrie also confirmed the return of Cruise and Jeremy Renner to the cast, but left out Paula Patton, who played Jane Carter in Ghost Protocol. It was perceived that Patton would return for the next movie, but the lack of having her in the tweet, and the fact that Rebecca Ferguson is being rumored for a key role could mean that Patton is out.
With production set to begin soon, Patton could still work her way in, especially since she was well-received in Ghost Protocol and seemed willing to return.
Mission: Impossible 5 is set to be directed by McQuarrie from a script by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). The cast also includes a role for Alec Baldwin as the head of the CIA in the vein of Robert Redford's role in Captain America: Winter Solider.
