According to RadarOnline Tuesday, a source said the ring was actually given to Teresa a year ago. She wanted to give it to her daughter on national television "to give publicity to the jeweler."
On the show, Teresa told Gia the ring belonged to her grandmother and that it was passed down to her mother, who gave it to Teresa who wanted to now give it to Gia. But the source said that is completely false.

"Teresa's mother never had the ring for any extended period of time. It was all done for the show, and it's now back in Teresa's possession."

Teresa currently faces huge legal woes as she awaits her sentencing for a fraud case. She and her husband Joe pleaded guilty to several charges including bank and loan fraud in March. Their sentencing is scheduled for September. But in the meantime, Teresa is reportedly hurting for cash even though she brings in $700,000 for the current season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
A separate source said, "Despite that huge paycheck, most of that money is going to pay for Joe and Teresa's legal fees. There will also be expected fines assessed to the couple when they are finally sentenced in September, and Teresa has been told that could be up to $250,000."
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
