'True Detective' Emmy Awards: Jimmy Kimmel Declares Matthew McConaughey Too Much Of A 'Movie Star' To Be On Television [VIDEO]
The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired live on NBC Monday night, and no joke regarding Matthew McConaughey and his lead actor nomination went untapped.
'True Detective' Could Nab Prime Slot In Fall 2015
Both McConaughey and True Detective co-star Woody Harrelson were up for Best Lead Actor in A Drama Series, and while neither walked away with the award, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel capitalized on their presence at the show during a segment of the awards show. He singled McConaughey out for having already won an Oscar earlier this year for Dallas Buyers Club. He then added that McConaghey did not have a "TV" face, but rather a "movie star" face and should take his "bongos" and leave.
Later in the show host Seth Meyers and former SNL co-star Amy Poehler rattled off a number of Mconaughey and Harrelson joke intros, calling them "two men who also have no idea what happened at the end of True Detective" and "two men who seem like they'd be chatty in the sack," which Meyers noted sounded pretty "accurate."
'True Detective' Gets 'Chinatown' Spin For Season 2
Ultimately, McConaughey and Harrelson were introduced as the only people "not rumored" to be up for the second season of True Detective, which is probably as accurate as it gets. The actors will not be returning to the HBO series in 2015.
A new cast and storyline are currently in the works, though Pizzolatto isn't giving out any spoilers just yet. Casting rumors have spread far and wide, from Jessica Chastain (The Debt, Mama) to Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, Into the Wild).
