On Friday, Hollywood Life reportedly found an answer if these images were real or not. It turns out that a statement was released from the singer's publicist that says the pictures are in fact fake. One way in particular to know for sure that the pictures are fake is the fact that Duff has a tattoo on her left ankle, but it doesn't show up in the pictures, says TMZ.
"Photos claiming to be Hilary Duff are completely fake," the singer's publicist told the site. "They are all from the neck down and are absolutely fake. They do not have Hilary's defining birthmarks or tattoos. ANY PRESS PERSON who indicates that these photos are Hilary Duff, will meet legal recourse."

According to the TMZ, Duff has had to contact the FBI over the situation and apparently said that the woman in the photos is not her.
Duff is only one of the many other celebrities who have had leaked fake pictures released. Another celebrity who has reportedly been a victim of this is Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney who took to her Twitter page to thank the fans who have been on her side.
"shout out to my fans for defending me all day long.. even when things got weird u stood by me. and that meant the world," Maroney wrote.
