With the premiere of FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show less than a month away, fans are getting hyped up for another round of horror.

Freak Show is the fourth installment in the horror anthology series, this one centering on one of the last remaining freak shows in America. Set in 1952, Freak Show stars Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars, a German expatriate who owns the freak show in Jupiter, Fla. and will stop at nothing to keep it running during the dawn of television.

Among her troupe of freaks are conjoined twins Dot and Bette Tattler (Sarah Paulson), bearded lady Ethel Darling (Kathy Bates), "lobster boy" Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters), three-breasted woman Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett), strongman Dell Toledo (Michael Chiklis) and more.

Paulson previously revealed that Freak Show would be like a hybrid between the darker, psychological tones featured in American Horror Story: Asylum and the relatively light-hearted American Horror Story: Coven.

Freak Show is also slated to feature the first character from a previous season for the first time in AHS history. Pepper, the microcephalic from Asylum, is slated to appear in Freak Show as one of the performers. Considering Freak Show takes place in 1952 and Asylum in 1964, fans will get a chance to see Pepper's life before she was sent to Briarcliff Mental Institution.

The new season will, of course, feature a horrifying new villain in Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch), a retired jester who does not take kindly to the freak show. Twisty follows the tradition of monstrous AHS villains like Rubber Man and Bloody Face.

After the finale of Coven, Enstars polled readers on which season of American Horror Story they preferred. While each season has its fans, Asylum was the overwhelming favorite with over 46 percent of the vote. The first season came in at 28 percent while Coven brought up the rear with 25 percent.

Does Freak Show have the potential to unite those fans of both Asylum and Coven and become the best season of American Horror Story yet?

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
