The Hollywood actor made the controversial comments after admitting that his Reach co-star Jeremy Irvine was asked to put on 20 pounds of muscle.

According to TVNZ.com on Friday during an interview with The Guardian newspaper about women being viewed as "eye candy" Douglas said, "It's not acceptable for women to be eye candy?"

The big screen star added, "If your role in that picture is to be eye candy and the director looks at you and says, 'You're going to be in a bra and panties and you're looking pretty soft around the middle'. Absolutely you'd tell that person to kick ass."

Just last month, Douglas admitted that he wants to star in a future movie with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Hones.

According to the UK's Express Newspaper, Douglas says that working with his wife would be a "dream come true" and that he would like to find a project that their two kids Dylan, 14, and Carys, 11, can be a part of, too.

He said on Friday, "It's hard finding the right project and something we can bring along the kids to. But I really hope we can work together soon... I'd like to find something to do with her. It would be a dream come true because she's such a talent."
