A new contest which gives fans the opportunity to win an Art & Design book based on The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, by the team behind the visual effects of the movie, was announced on September 21.

The One Ring has launched the contest in collaboration with Harper Collins Publishers, and the deadline for submissions is set for October 31. The books will be parceled to the winners at the same time of its release i.e. December 17.

Speaking of collectibles, MTV news recently reported that Funko's has come out with an exciting new line of toys featuring the characters like Sauron, the dragon Smaug, and Tauriel. Smaug looks rather cute in this plastic toy iteration. Smaug stands at 6" and Tauriel is 3.75" tall. The series can be found on the official Funko website.

In other recent promotional activityThe Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies featured on the cover of the September issue of Empire magazine and director Peter Jackson dished about what fans can expect from the movie in an interview for the story.

A report sourced some of the highlights of the cover story and Jackson's definition of the The Battle of the Five Armies will definitely get fans excited.

"I think of this third movie as a psychological thriller with actions scenes interspersed in the middle of it," he said. "It has for a very tight narrative structure."

To bring out the much anticipated duel between Bard the Bowman, played by Luke Evans, and the dragon Smaug, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbacth, the magazine has two covers. One features the dragon while the other showcases Bard, and the covers are being pitted as "Bard vs. Smaug."

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will hit theaters on December 18.
