'American Horror Story' Season 4 Spoilers: Premiere Seen From Dot & Bette's Perspective As Elsa Sings David Bowie Hit [VIDEO]
The premiere of FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show has been screened by various critics, and some are saying this is the most unique season of the horror anthology series yet.

While the premiere episode is not set to air for the general public until Wednesday, some critics have seen it and posted reviews this weekend. The reviews from SpoilerTV, SeriesGamesandMore.com and SFGate reveal quite a few details about the premiere episode, titled Monsters Among Us.
As with the previous three premieres, the audience enters the world of Freak Show through an outsider. Like the Harmon family in Murder House, Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson) in Asylum and Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) in Coven, Freak Show features conjoined twins Dot and Bette Tattler (Paulson) coming in from the outside, marveling at the freak show that they will soon call their home.

The premiere only focuses on a few primary characters, according to SpoilerTV, including Bette and Dot, freak show owner Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange), bearded lady Ethel Darling and "Lobster Boy" Evan Peters. There is also a special appearance by Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch), the latest villain to terrorize citizens in the American Horror Story franchise.
Elsa, in addition to being a freak show owner, is actually a former cabaret singer who gets to bust out her chops for a rendition of David Bowie's Life on Mars. This is reportedly Lange's finally season on the show, so the show's writers are definitely using her to her fullest potential. There is also a reveal at the end of the premiere episode that shows Elsa might be a bit of a "freak" herself.
While some reviews are more kind than others, there seems to be an agreement that Freak Show is its own animal in comparison to the three seasons that came before.
American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to debut Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
