Despite Jessica Lange repeatedly saying that American Horror Story: Freak Show will be her last season with the show, those behind the scenes are trying their best to get her to stay on for Season 5.

If American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has his way, Lange may very well change her mind and appear in the fifth season of the horror anthology series. Murphy spoke with a few different media outlets about this being Lange's final season and how he's doing everything in his power to convince her otherwise.

"I'm never accepting [that she will leave]," Murphy said, adding that this is actually her favorite season of her whole four-year run with the series. In Freak Show, she plays Elsa Mars, the owner of a freak show on its last legs in Jupiter, Fla. in 1952.

"I really want her to keep her hand in. Does that mean 13 episodes or six or one? What does that mean?" Murphy said, hypothetically. She and I will probably have a dinner date over the holidays. We always start with the character and she decides from there."

Despite Lange's insistence, Murphy suggested that she might be open to returning at some point.

"Before I was met with a really quick no and now I'm hearing, 'Let's keep talking.' So that's a promising sign....I think if I presented her with the right character, it could work," Murphy revealed. "That's my hope. I'm sending bribes every day!"

Joining American Horror Story has helped Lange revitalize her career and given her a whole new generation of fans. She has also won two Emmy Awards for the series, one for playing nosy neighbor Constance Langdon in Season 1 and the other for playing Supreme witch Fiona Goode in AHS: Coven.

Assuming another Emmy could be on the way for playing Elsa Mars, might she be convinced to stay?

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres Wednesday night at 10/9c on FX. The first episode is 90 minutes long.
