Just one month after she was born, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes' baby's name was revealed to the world-and now, the reason for their choosing the unique name they did has been as well.

The couple, who have been dating on/off for three years, welcomed their daughter, Esmeralda Amada into the world on September 12, and E! News has reportedly figured out not only what their daughter's name means, but why the couple chose it.
According to the website, the couple chose the name for their daughter because it translates to "Beautiful Emerald" (a translation search engine however translates the name to "Beloved Emerald"), and the couple reportedly chose first and middle names that represented her Hispanic heritage since their child would carry Gosling as her surname.

Their daughter's middle name, Amada, which was initially linked back to Mendes' role as Amada Juarez in the 2007 film We Own the Night, also goes back to the roots in her family. Back when she was filming the movie, she reportedly asked director James Gray to change her character's name to Amada to honor her late grandmother, whom she had never met.
"I have a feeling that I am so like her, I feel like we're connected," Mendes has reportedly said about her grandmother.
Mendes' brother revealed earlier this week that his new niece did have a family name, but wouldn't reveal it to honor the couple's privacy.
"Well, there's the family name," he said at the time.
At the time his comments were believes to hint that the couple had given their daughter a name they were rumored to be considering back when news broke of Mendes' pregnancy in July. At the time reports claimed that if they couple gave birth to a girl, theu would name her either Donna (after Gosling's mother), or Coral (after Mendes' mother's maiden name, Corales).
The couple has yet to be spotted in public since their daughter's birth, and the baby has yet to be photographed publicly, but for now, the couple is too busy enjoying parenthood to even worry about exposing their daughter to the public.
"They've settled so well into their new family of three," the source told E! "Ryan is very hands on and has been taking the baby after the early morning feed so Eva can sleep in a bit. He sings the baby songs-they are both madly in love with this child."
