2012 Olympics; Missy Franklin Races 200M Backstroke For Chance at Record at 2:30PM EST [VIDEO]
Missy Franklin will swim in the 200-Meter Backstroke at the 2012 Olympics on August 3 for a chance at breaking another record and possibly making history. Franklin will swim in her speciality event at 2:30PM EST.
The 17 year-old swimmer from Colorado can become the first US woman to win 3 golds in one Olympic event since Jenny Thompson in 2000. Franklin may also break the world record of becoming the first woman to sweep the Olympics in the backstroke event. The current record-holder is Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe.
Missy Franklin has swam in 6 of the 7 events in the Olympics. She already holds the world-record for the short course, 25-Meter pool race.
The young swimmer also broke a US record in the 100-Meter Backstroke when she swam in 58.33 seconds. Franklin, earned the gold medal over Emily Seebohm of Australia and Aya Terakawa of Japan, who placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
"I never thought I'd be able to do it at 17," Missy Franklin said, "It feels absolutely incredible."
Franklin will race in the Women's 200-Meter Backstroke on Friday, Day 7 of Olympic games at 2:30PM EST.
