Sanya Richards-Ross Twitter; 'God is Good' After 'Overwhelming' Gold Win in 400M Race
Olympics 2012 runner, Sanya Richards Ross took to her Twitter to express her excitement after winning gold in the Women's 400-Meter race on Sunday.
"I have dreamt of this moment for a very long time but nothing compares to this feeling! Never give up on your dreams!!!! God is good," Richards Ross posted on Twitter.
"I wish that I could have this moment for life... # Operation Gold complete!" the Olympics star added.
Richards Ross won her first gold for the US in the 400-Meter race at 49.55 seconds. British runner, Christine Ohuruogu came in 2nd place at 49.70 seconds. And DeeDee Trotter of the US took the bronze medal at 49.72 seconds.
Richards Ross explained that she wanted to be sure of her victory before celebrating after crossing the finish line.
"I was almost 100 percent sure I had it," Richards Ross said. "But you never want to celebrate until you see your name on top of that list. So, to finally have that moment and see my name at the top at the Olympic Games, it's really hard to describe that feeling. I was just overwhelmed."
Richards Ross' win comes after a disappointing race during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The runner participated in the 400-Meter race and was a favorite to come in first. However, she earned a Bronze and was brought to tears by the thought of waiting 4 more years for another chance at gold.
Now in London, Richards Ross admits it "really difficult to come out here and control your emotions and your desire when you want something so badly."
"That was Christine [Ohuruogu]'s title in 2008. It took me some time to get past that. This time, when I went on the track, I knew I had to cross that finish line first to call myself Olympic champion. I had to dig really deep to do that tonight. I'm so grateful to have this experience. It's just been a phenomenal ride. There's been some difficulties. You have to overcome so much in four years to get this opportunity."
