Aly Raisman Floor Routine 2012; Wins Gold With 'Best Floor Routine That I've Ever Done' [Video]
Aly Raisman won gold at her final event in the 2012 Olympics. The 18 year-old gymnast was proud of her floor routine that made her the first US woman to win gold in that event.
"It was definitely the best floor routine that I've ever done," Raisman said according to Newsday. "To have it be at the Olympic Games, in the finals, is just really amazing and just a dream come true. That's what you work for your whole life."
Catalina Ponor of Romania won silver and Russian gymnast Aliya Mustafina took bronze in the floor routine.
Aly Raisman's coach, Mihai Brestyan, was very excited as he watched Raisman's energetic and near-perfect perfomance. Even fellow US gymnast, McKayla Maroney, shouted "whoa!" loudly when Raisman received a score of 15.6 from the judges.
Raisman reportedly mouthed the word "wow" after saluting the judges; she was also impressed by her performance.
"I felt like I had nothing to lose," Raisman said. "It was going to be my last memory for London, so I just wanted to make it count and enjoy it."
Earlier Tuesday, Raisman won the bronze medal on the Olympic balance beam after an appeal and a tiebreaker with Romania's Ponor.
Raisman had scored 14.9 in her beam routine but the U.S. team requested a review from the judges on her difficulty element.
As a result, the judges increased her score to 15.066, tying Catalina Ponor of Romania in third place.
But in the end Raisman snatched the bronze because her execution was better, 8.766 compared to Ponor's 8.466 score.
The floor medal was Raisman's third medal at the London Games including the team gold last week.
The floor exercise marked the final artistic gymnastics event at the London Games today.
