Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato Friendship: 'Neon Lights' Singer Says They Are 'Acquaintances' With Nothing In Common
Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato were closer than ever growing up, but now the former Disney stars aren't best friends anymore.
Lovato, 22, called in 103.3 AMP Radio's "The TJ Show" on Monday to answer some fan questions. When one fan asked about her relationship with Cyrus, Lovato paused and said they are merely "acquaintances."
"Yeah, it's life, and people change, and, you know, I don't have anything in common with her anymore, and I wish her all the best," she added.
The radio host quickly hinted that their different lifestyle is probably the cause. Cyrus has taken on the persona of a party girl, who sings about molly, while Lovato is proudly sober.
The Neon Lights singer has been very candid about her past struggle with drug abuse and her road to recovery. For example, last December during an interview with Access Hollywood's Kit Hoover she said she once, "couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine." She voluntarily entered rehab in her late teens and has avoided drugs ever since.
However, things seemed to be okay between Cyrus and Lovato just a year ago. Lovato visited Katie Couric's talk show last November where she stuck up for her childhood friend after her controversial VMA performance and said she'll "always love her."
"I think she knows what she's doing. A lot of artists take that route of shock value and that's totally fine," she told Couric about Cyrus. "People are talking about her. People are talking about her VMAs performance and now twerking I think is in the dictionary."
