As Love & Hip Hop New York star Erica Mena makes her plans to jump the broom with rapper Bow Wow, she recently opened up about being in a victim of domestic violence by the hands of her son's father.

Mena spoke with DJ Vlad of VladTV and said, "It was extremely unhealthy. It was very violent and...I didn't know what was gonna be after that. My days with him were always long. So there was like a weird time in life."
She admitted that she first blamed herself but when it became a pattern, she understood that he was the problem.

"I didn't know when to expect it. It would be the least things that I would least expect that would trigger."
She also said she gave birth to her son when she was 19 years old just as her acting and modeling career was getting ready to take off.
Mena added that the abuse began before she was pregnant, but she and her son's father were in an even more interesting point in their relationship at the time. She confessed that he often took advantage of the funds she was bringing in to the household.
"We had just moved to LA. We were just kind of making by with everything. I was able to provide a lot, but I never saw anything. I gave too much control of my life and my funds and my career to him. I didn't get to see a lot of what was coming in."
