During the taping of his episode of Millionaire Matchmaker, Birkhead, the father of Smith's eight-year-old daughter, Dannielynn, opened up about his former flame, and revealed why he keeps a shrine to her in his home.
“I think she would just really want me to be happy,” Birkhead told matchmaker Patti Stanger, according to a Radar Online report on Wednesday. In response, Stanger, who knew the Playboy model, said Smith "would be happy" with the arrangement.

Smith was romantically linked to Birkhead prior to her 2007 death. However, after she gave birth to Dannielynn, several men, including Howard K. Stern, bodyguard Alexander Denk and Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, claimed to be the child's father. Ultimately, following a paternity test, Birkhead was confirmed to be Dannielynn's dad.
Since her passing, Birkhead has dedicated himself to keeping Smith's memory alive. When asked about his “shrine” to Smith, Birkhead explained, “I feel like I have a responsibility to my daughter to keep her mom’s image alive.”
Regarding his search for The One, Birkhead said he’s “feeling really good."
“I’m pretty confident that Patty’s going to find a match,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
The Millionaire Matchmaker season 8 premiere, which features Birkhead and former video model Melyssa Ford, airs on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. on Bravo.
