Months after the summer accident which left comedian James McNair dead and Tracy Morgan seriously injured, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon apologized to those involved and also defended the company's truck drivers.

"It was a tragedy," he told CBS in a new interview. "I would, first of all, say to the McNair family how sorry we are about their loss and to Tracy Morgan and everybody else that was involved in it. We feel very bad about what happened and from the beginning have tried to say we want to take responsibility for it and do what's right."
On June 7, a Walmart truck hit into the limo bus that Morgan and his four friends were traveling in on the New Jersey Turnpike. They were returning from a standup show the night prior at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware. The father of four had to undergo surgery for a fractured leg as he also suffered from broken ribs, nose and femur.

The 46-year-old filed a lawsuit against Walmart a month later, putting blame on the employee, adding that the company should have been aware that the driver's 700-mile commute was "unreasonable" and that he had been awake for more than a day.
"Our truck drivers do a great job. We have a private fleet that has a lot of pride," McMillon said. "While this incident is tragic and we've had some others as well, we take them very seriously. And if our truck drivers were standing around you right now, they'd want you to know that they care a lot. This really impacted all of us."
When asked if the driver involved in Morgan's accident was "too tired," McMillon said he can't speak on the individual circumstance.
