Things heated up between co-hosts Rosie O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg on The View during a discussion regarding racism on Thursday's episode.

Goldberg said she believes that when African-Americans are followed in stores while shopping it's because of ignorance but not racism. However, O'Donnell, co-host Rosie Perez and the guest of the day, Orange Is The New Black's Laverne Cox, disagreed.

When conservative co-host Nicolle Wallace asked the women if they think we live in racist country, O'Donnell quickly responded, "without a doubt."

"I think a country that elects an African-American president twice, I don't think every American is racist," said Wallace.

O'Donnell, who is known to be very opinionated, didn't sway from her beliefs pointing out that the Congress doesn't allow President Obama to "do one thing."

"You are a white lady telling me what is racist to you, which is fine," Goldberg shot back.

O'Donnell, who is known to be defended her views saying she's a gay American, who knows what "homophobia and hatred looks like" firsthand.

"It's not the same thing," Goldberg said.

"You don't have to be black to know what racism is," O'Donnell responded.

"Yes, you do," Golberg shot back.

Goldberg continued, "America is not just a racist country because there are white people who get it. ...That is why I will not accept the blanket statement that America is racist. I don't agree I'm sorry."
