Chatter On Michael Sam & The Documentary Series Involving Oprah Winfrey

On Tuesday, Huffington Post released the clip with the NFL star who sits in his interview with Winfrey as she asks him if other players have contacted him since he revealed that he was gay. He said that "very few" have done so, which made Winfrey ask for more of an approximate number. Sam responded again with "very few."

"Very few reached out to me and pretty much just told me their gratitude and how thankful they were that I had the courage [to come out publicly]," Sam said. "They wished that they had the courage to come out."

The NFL player then pointed out how much of a positive impact his decision made on other gay men.

"[They] just showed their respect and admired my courage," he said. "It was very good."

When Winfrey asked if it was "men" who contacted Sam and not "man," Sam made it clear that there are definitely a plural amount of gay men in football.

"There's a lot of us out there," Sam said. "I'm not the only one. I'm just the only one who's open."

The interview will air on Oprah Prime this Saturday, December 27 at 10:30 p.m. ET on OWN.
