Tis the season to be jolly, which is why the theft of the iconic A Christmas Story lamp from a store window has patrons up in arms.

Every year the classic 1983 film A Christmas Story airs for 24 hours on TBS as part of a time honored holiday tradition. For Yankee Spirits owner Gary Brennan, the film has been part of the New York liquor store's own tradition as well.

For Christmas the store honors the film with a window display filled with memorabilia from the movie. This includes the "major award" won by Ralphie's (Peter Billingsley) father: a tall lamp shaped to look like a woman's leg in a black high heeled shoe with a fringe-trimmed top.

According to People in Tuesday, the lamp was stolen from the store window this week. Surveillance video revealed that a man wearing sunglasses and a gray sweatshirt grabbed the lamp from the display before abruptly exiting the store.

Brennan claims that his customers are just as upset about the incident as he is.

While a crime has most certainly been committed, there is a strange sense of life imitating art in the act.

When Ralphie's father receives the award, the boy's mother hates the lamp so much she breaks it when no one is looking, then claims it was an accident so that it can no longer shine in the living room window.

The lamp won't be shining in Brennan's window either this year, and much life Ralphie's old man he's not too happy about it.

A Christmas Story will air repeatedly for 24 hours on TBS starting Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
