Little Mermaid Surgery Ad Stirs Controversy: Venezuelan Clinic Criticized for Giving Wrong Message
A plastic surgery clinic in Venezuela is facing strong criticism over an ad it made featuring Disney's Little Mermaid with a sexier image.
The ad titled "We Make Fairy Tales Come True," ran by the Dampere Clinic, featured the Disney character with a face lift, a boob job and legs instead of a tail after undergoing a plastic surgery.
The ad is part of a series starred by several fairy tale characters that go under the knife to make their dreams "come true."
The ads have become controversial earning criticism over its message to young girls.
"This is pretty disgusting,. Little girls actually look up to these cartoon characters. So, what they are saying is: 'Hey, little girl, you are not good enough for this world with small normal boobs, so get big plastic ones and people will love you," a user of the Huffington Post message board wrote.
However, other users diverted the attention from the Little Mermaid's plastic surgery and rather anticipated a lawsuit with Disney for the use of Ariel's image.
"I'm pretty sure the point of the ad is not at question here. I think the copyright is the real issue," a Buzzfeed reader wrote on the site's message board.
