'Harry Potter' Death News: Actor David Ryall Dies On Christmas Day After Five-Decade Career
Distinguished British actor David Ryall, whose career spanned 50 years, died on Christmas Day. He was 79.

"Please take a moment to remember his huge five-decade-spanning career outside of the more well-known TV & film. Not just Harry Potter," his daughter, Charlotte Ryall, tweeted on Dec. 27. "Not that I don't love Harry Potter. I do, I do. But there's so much more."
Aside from appearing as Elphias Doge in 2010's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, the actor's long list of film credits include, The Elephant Man in 1980, Truly Madly Deeply in 1990 and 2004's Around the World in 80 Days.

He also appeared in many television shows, including Love for Lydia in 1997, Goodnight Sweetheart in 1993 and more recently on Outnumbered from 2007 to 2011.
Several of Ryall's colleagues took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late star.
"The great David Ryall left us on Christmas Day. A twinkling, brilliant, wonderful actor I was privileged to call a friend. RIP," actor Mark Gatiss tweeted.
Fellow actor Toby Hadoke tweeted, "Sad to hear via @Markgatiss that the fine actor David Ryall has died. The Singing Detective, Shelley, G'night Sweetheart & much more. RIP."

Ryall is also survived by his third wife, Penny, son Jonathan and another daughter Imogen.
