'Annie' News 2014: Target Angers Customers With Controversial Ad, Petition Demands Apology to Quvenzhané Wallis [VIDEO]
When Target decided to come out with a clothing line featuring clothing from the remake of Annie, it seemed like a good idea. That is, until the superstore went the wrong direction with the advertising.

One of the most noteable changes in the remake of Annie is that she is played by African-American actress Quvenzhané Wallis. But Target decided to ignore that significant change in the advertisements for their Annie for Target girls clothing line, reported Perez Hilton on Monday.
Though the clothing accurately replicates the outfits from the movie, the models do not. In reaction to the clothing line, a Change.org petition was started that urges Target to fix their mistake by issuing an apology to Quvenzhané Wallis.

The petition first addresses the issue directly to Target:
"Your recent Annie ads and in-store displays depicts a misleading depiction of the movie as it shows a Caucasion young lady opposed to the star of the film- Quvenzhané Wallis. Though the model is quite professional, she does not speak to the relevance of the movie or main character. When the original Annie came out, everything was about Aileen Quinn or a character/person that emulated her...why not now Target? If you can show it online, show it in ALL of your stores with multiple signage with different girls not one!"
It then follows-up with a call to action: "We demand that you immediately pull those misleading ads and give Quvenzhané Wallis her due respect as well as other little girls who aspire to be like her...It would also be proper for you to apologize to Quvenzhané Wallis."
The ads do feature a few African-American models, but noteably, none of them are featured in the signature Annie dress.
Target has not yet issued a response, but the petition has gained over 1,000 signatures since it went up.
