Edward Herrmann Dead: 'Gilmore Girls' Co-Star Alexis Bledel Says She'll 'Miss Him Tremendously' [VIDEO]
Alexis Bledel released a touching statement to remember her Gilmore Girls co-star Edward Herrmann, who passed away on New Year’s Eve.
“Ed Herrmann was a wonderful actor and a kind man. He was endlessly knowledgeable about theater, TV and film, and would generously share his wisdom or tell stories from a long and rewarding career. I am grateful to him for that, and will miss him tremendously. He loved acting and was the head of our Gilmore family with his strong presence and great sense of humor. May he rest in peace,” she said.
Bledel starred on the popular TV series as Rory Gilmore while Herrmann played her wealthy grandfather Richard Gilmore. Lauren Graham, who played Herrmann’s daughter, Lorelai Gilmore, remembered the actor via Twitter, writing, “My friend Ed Herrmann was the kindest, classiest, most talented man. It was an honor and a joy to know him, a devastating blow to lose him.”
In a statement, Kelly Bishop, who starred as his wife, Emily Gilmore, said she was able to say goodbye to Herrmann at the hospital.
“I have so many fond memories of our time together on Gilmore Girls and since, mainly via email. I think everyone who knew or worked with Ed found him to be absolutely delightful,” she added. “Everything looks a little dim, as if the lights went down.”
Herrmann died at the age of 71 after battling brain cancer, according to news reports. The actor, who got his start in film in the 1970s, also appeared on other popular shows, including Oz, Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order. He also starred in several films, such as 1994's Richie Rich, 2007’s I Think I Love My Wife and 2013’s Are You Here.
He is survived by his wife Star Benson and three children.
