Hurricane Isaac 2012 Path: Forecasted To Turn Into Category 2 In New Orleans
Tropical Storm Isaac looks as though it is headed straight toward New Orleans. It is predicted to turn into a category 2 hurricane, with speeds up to 110 mph from late Tuesday to early Wednesday, on Hurricane Katrina's seventh anniversary.
Expert senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski, who is with the AccuWeather Hurricane and Tropical Storm Center, had the following to say regarding Isaac, according to the Boston Herald:
"If people are being told to evacuate, they should already be on the road. There is an eye forming over the center and it is over some very warm weather. There's always a risk of a storm getting a little bit stronger than anticipated. If it gets to a 2 it could get to a 3."
The National Hurricane Center has put up hurricane advisories that extend from east of Morgan City, La, to the city of Destin in the Panhandle of Florida. Louisiana could receive as much as 18 inches of rain, accompanied by a storm surge of up to 12 feet as well as potential tornadoes.
However, that would only take effect if Isaac does not slow down from its current speed when it reaches land. Isaac's center is said to now have New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain in its crosshairs.
New Orleans is currently under a state of emergency and the National Guard has been deployed.
