RNC Mystery Speaker: Clint Eastwood Rumored To Be Surprise Guest At Republican Convention
The Internet is abuzz with speculation about the "mystery speaker" who will appear tonight at the Republican National Convention before presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
The convention's schedule presently lists the speaker for that timeslot as "to be announced," and speculation has included big Republican names like Sarah Palin. But Fox News reported the mystery guest would be none other than Oscar winner Clint Eastwood.
The 82-year-old actor and director has already endorsed Romney for the presidency. He also has a past in politics, as he served as mayor of a California city and was reportedly considered as a vice presidential candidate by George H.W. Bush.
Leonard Hirshan, Eastwood's manager, told reporters that he knew Eastwood would be in Carmel, Calif., on Wednesday but he had no information about the actor's plans beyond that. But a "well-placed Republican source" told Townhall that Eastwood would visit Tampa, Fla., to catch the end of the Republican National Convention.
Celebrities more often tend to publicly side with the Democratic Party, and the GOP has shamed famous faces before in ads like 2008's "Celebrity," which likened Barack Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.
But Eastwood is among several other Hollywood personalities, like Jon Voight and Chuck Norris, who have pledged their support to the Republicans.
Romney's speech Thursday night, which will follow Eastwood or whomever the mystery speaker turns out to be, will close out the Republican National Convention and officially kick off Romney's campaign for the presidency.
