Many people are enjoying a day off from school or work because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and several places appear to be observing ways to bring those enjoying the day off from their usual Monday routine by offering several discounts, sales, and offers.

Several retailers are taking advantage of the federal holiday by offering sales on items throughout stores, in an effort to potentially capitalize on extra traffic from consumers, in addition to clearing out clearance winter items so new merchandise can become the focus.

The Children's Place: up to 75 percent off clearance items, online only

Express: Take $25 off of every $75 spent using promo code 1042

H&M: Deals from $5.00, and up to 60 percent off select styles online and in-store

JC Penney: Using a JCP card, take an extra 25 percent off a purchase of $100 or more, or 20 percent off with any other form of payment; Take 20 percent off any general purchase with a JCP card, or an extra 15 percent off any other form of payment; and an extra 10 percent off watches, furniture, mattresses and custom blinds and shades.

Justice: 40 percent off entire store, and an additional 20 percent off of everything
