Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys are ready to prove that they can beat the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New York Giants.

The 2012 NFL kickoff starts on Sept. 5 with Cowboys vs. Giants at the MetLife Stadium at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The game proves to be an intense one because coming off of their Super Bowl win, the Giants would hate to lose their first game of the NFL season.

The game will air live on NBC and live streaming, including live updates while the teams battle it out on the field, is available at the Game Center on the NFL's official site for the 2012 season.

From Sept. 5- 10, teams will go head-to-head to make their way to the XLVII Super Bowl on Feb. 3.

Here is a lineup of what to expect this season:

Oct. 28 - International Series

Jan. 5-20 - Playoffs

Jan. 26 - Senior Bowl

Jan. 27 - Pro Bowl

April 25-27 - 2013 Draft

The Giants will open the NFL season on Wednesday and though they are "viewed widely as underdogs in the NFC," according to the Bleacher Report, they have brought back all their star players that helped in their Super Bowl victory. The big names returning include Jason Pierre-Paul, Eli Manning and Victor Michael Cruz.

The site predicted that the reigning Super Bowl champions will take home the win against the Cowboys because of their strong defense.

Mariah Carey and No Doubt will perform live at the NBC/NFL Network special, beginning at 7:30 Eastern Time before the Giants vs. Cowboys game. Coverage of the 60-minute pregame show, "NFL Kickoff 2012 presented by Bud Light," will air from Rockefeller Center in New York City and will also be available on NFL Mobile via Verizon.
