Hurricane Leslie Path 2012: Advisory In Bermuda [LATEST UPDATES & FORECASTS]
Sept. 10th is considered the peak of hurricane season, and apparently well on schedule. There are two hurricanes and one spot in the Gulf of Mexico that has the potential to develop into a tropical system.
Hurricane Leslie is only a Category 1 storm at this time, but is now expected to increase into a Category 2 by Friday. It currently possesses 5 mph winds and is drifting to the north at roughly 1 mph. It is expected to head right towards Bermuda over the weekend.
According to CNN, Bermuda has told their residents to "prepare for the worst," as Leslie is expected to increase to 96 mph and also bringing severe rains and winds along with it.
Schools in Bermuda are expected to be closed on Friday as residents prepare for the approaching storm.
The United States is also being affected by the natural disaster, as its high tide currently extends from Florida to Maine. Forecasters have issued warnings due to potential life-threatening rip currents and large breakers up through the weekend.
Hurricane Michael is another storm that has increased into a Category 3 hurricane overnight on Wednesday going into Thursday, as its winds reached 115mph. Although it was considered the first severe storm of the respective season, it is not expected to cause any damage while gradually working its way north through the Atlantic. Unlike Leslie, it is currently expected to come to a halt within the ocean.
The spot that was mentioned is none other than Isaac. The long-slowed storm still has a little bit of energy left as it continues north over the Gulf of Mexico. However, the National Hurricane Center gives it a 40% chance of turning into a tropical disturbance over the next few days. If it does transition into something stronger, it could be named Nadine.
