The playoffs are from Jan. 5- 20 with the Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3.

Since moving the NFL kickoff to a prime time spot on Thursday evenings in 2001, a defending Super Bowl champion has never lost the game. However, this year the Cowboys broke that record, winning Wednesday's game on Sept. 5 over the Giants, 24-17.

This year's NFL season opened on Wednesday evening so that the game would not clash with President Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention on Sept. 6. It was the first time in over 60 years that the NFL has played a regular season game on a Wednesday and not a Thursday.
