Apple Event September 2012: Anticipation Builds For iPhone 5 Unveiling
Excitement is building for Apple's Sept. 12 press conference, when the computer company is expected to unveil the latest iteration of its revolutionary iPhone.
Apple sent out an invitation to the event in which the number 12 (for Sept. 12) creates the shadow of a 5, prompting speculation that the long anticipated iPhone 5 will be revealed that day.
One of the most significant changes expected in the new iPhone is a bigger screen. The iPhone 5's screen could measure 4 inches from corner to corner, an increase from the 3.5-inch size of the most recent 4S model.
Other rumors say the phone may have a faster processor and additional changes to its structure and internal build.
Also rumored for the Sept. 12 event is the release of the iPad mini, a smaller version of Apple's successful tablet. But other speculation has pegged the unveiling of that gadget for a separate event in October.
The high-profile press conference is scheduled to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Calif. That location has been the preferred spot for rolling out big products in the past.
With the release of the invitation and hints at the iPhone 5's debut, shares in Apple rose 0.6 percent to reach $669.44.
