Kindle Fire HD vs Google Nexus 7 is on the mind of every consumer considering the purchase of a new tablet. Kindle Fire HD and the new e-reader model, Paperwhite, were unveiled by Amazon on their Sept. 6 conference. The tablet is a new and improved Kindle Fire with high definition in an 8.9 and 7 inch model. Google Nexus 7 is also available in 2 sizes. While both the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 are similar in hardware, it is actually the software that will make the greatest difference in comparison.

The Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 are both Android operated. However, an article PC Mag explains that the operating system on the Kindle is still quite unique.

"Kindle Fire HD renders Android almost unrecognizable to provide a highly curated experience that centers around Amazon's content services," the publication reported.

While every manufacturer using the Android operating system uses different skins, they are often still recognizable by their layout and interface. However, PC Mag continues to explain how the Kindle Fire HD stands out.

"The Kindle Fire completely redesigns the interface to focus on your Amazon purchases and to offer integrated access to Amazon's own Android Appstore, book store, music store, and video store."

The Google Nexus 7 is a regular Android 4.1 with no extra branding, skinning, or personalization beyond the pure operating system.

Google Nexus 7 became the highest selling tablet since it's release in June and even sold out of its 16GB model just weeks after. The 7-inch device was notable for its less than $200 price tag, Android 4.1 Jellybean operating system, and quad-core processor.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Paperwhite are available for pre-order beginning Thursday and is expected for delivery as early as Sept. 14. The new tablet comes in several varieties. There is a 1920x1200, 1080p HD 8.9 inch display with dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology, but also a large display including 4G LTE capabilities. The 7 inch model comes with a 1280x800 display with 720p HD, dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technology. Both WiFi models come in 16GB or 32GB options. The Kindle Fire HD with 4G LTE comes in 32GB or 64GB options, all models including the free cloud storage for Amazon content.

The original Amazon Kindle Fire was also updated with longer battery life, double the memory space, and 40% faster performance. The price was also lowered to $159.00 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.

Kindle Paperwhite features sharper E-Ink. "We've added 62% more pixels and increased contrast by 25%, so whites are whiter, and blacks are blacker," Amazon founder & CEO, Jeff Bezos, wrote on the Amazon.com.

Paperwhite features a built-in light on the front of the device and also comes in a 3G model. The original Kindle was updates with new fonts and 15% faster page turns.
