Portugal is heavily favored to take the win, but the game won't be a cake walk for the team. Every point will count since Portugal is competing with Russia for the top spot in the group stage, which would give either team entry into the World Cup without having to endure the playoff round.
Portugal needs to pick up three points today to remain competitive, which SB Nation predicted should be simple, but could be easily complicated by the same struggle Portugal had against Luxembourg in what was supposed to be an easy victory.
The Bleacher Report suggested Portugal's Nani will perform well during the game, after facing a difficult stretch in which he scored no goals in his last six appearances. But Azerbaijan's weak defense should provide little resistance against the winger, allowing him to get into the aggressive state of play required for his success.
Lots of attention will also be on Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal manager Paulo Bento hopes to see Ronaldo take an early lead, and Azerbaijan's defense must stop him from building momentum if it homes to remain competitive.
The Bleacher Report predicts a 4-0 victory for Portugal.
