iPhone 5 Release Date September 12 Confirmed: Apple Website Spoiled Today's Event [Details]
The iPhone 5 release date finally arrived and seems that Apple spoiled the news of the iPhone 5 release date on its own website today.
Tech sites 9to5 and Techcrunch are reporting Wednesday morning that a search for "iPhone-5" on Apple's website retrieves information from "2012/09/12Apple-Introduces-iPhone-5.html" which points to today's much anticipated event at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California.
Enstarz confirmed the report independently this morning.
It remains to be seen if the rumors of the iPhone 5 features are true. Whether it will have a larger screen, a LTE and faster processor and a new smaller dock connector remains unknown. But the anticipation has built up nearly a year after Apple released it's last smartphone - the iPhone 4S.
Reuters reported that the new iPhone dubbed "iPhone 5" will possess a 4-inch screen, which is an increase from its previous 3.5-inch model that first debuted in 2007. Analysts said that the display increase is Apple's response to Samsung's larger and competitive Android phones, which have surpassed iPhones in smartphone sales.
Images of the iPhone 5 show a new 8-pin dock connector that would overtake the previous 30-pin iOS connector. The processor is slated to be upgraded, but there is no guarantee that the front and rear-facing cameras will be.
The sites also report that a search for the date 2012/09/12 on Apple's website also indicates that a new iPod Touch, a new iPod Nano and a new version of iTunes is being announced Wednesday.
The iPhone 5 release date is perhaps the most anticipated release by Apple this year and as usual, the tech blogosphere will be covering today's event with live blogging.
