Apple's highly-anticipated event in San Francisco is now officially in the books, as it took place on Wednesday unveiling the iPhone 5 and its features. As expected, the device's specs are once again considered top of the line in smartphones. However, it is still slated to receive strong competition from the current Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Nokia Lumia 920, which is slated for release in November.

Although the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the only device officially on the market, most of the details on both the newly announced iPhone 5 and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 had already been leaked or announced.

Apple's aluminum and glass iPhone 5 is beautiful - as expected. Its brand new metal backing was composed so that the smartphone could survive more drops than its past edition, the iPhone 4S.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has an all-plastic finish to it, including an ultra-thin back cover. However, the quality of the device has received criticism, as its plastic coating doesn't allow most owners to feel as expensive.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is the newest competitor in the smartphone market. Users have a choice in the polycarbonate body, as it could be yellow, red, white, black, or gray.

While the Galaxy S3 possesses a 4.8in screen, the iPhone 5's is actually smaller at 4in. However, the Lumia 920's screen is in between its competitors at 4.5in. In terms of width, the iPhone 5 is roughly 58mm, the Samsung measures out at 71mm and the Nokia Lumia 920 is 70.8mm.

As Apple continues to dominate the smartphone market, their competitors clearly have their work cut out for them, but either Samsung or Nokia just may one day play their spoiler.
