The new iPhone 5 has been announced and consumers are understandably hyped up. But some reviews are in and don't paint the picture of the perfect smartphone many people are expecting.

It's yet to be seen how major the problems are going to impact Apple's sales and how well they can be overcome.

One issue is the 4G/LTE support which many carriers are able to provide. However, take care to check which 4G frequencies are supported by each phone provider as not every network will be able to provide connectivity.

The other problem for consumers is the change in connector nicknamed Lightning. The change includes minimizing the size of the flat dock connector by 80% and making it reversible for easier connection. Apple has not followed with other manufacturers who use interchangeable USB connectors for their phones and instead opted for specialty ones used only for their own products.

This means that all of the iDevice accessories will not work with the new phone. This will likely affect sales, but as to what extent is yet to be seen. Third party manufacturers of Apple's products have shown to increase sales for the company and the addition of the new connector is expected to continue the trend.

The new adapter for the smaller connector will be priced at $29. The interconnectors will be available, but this is still looking to be the biggest issue with the new device. The casual consumer may have a difficult time understanding the new change as they've grown accustomed to the familiar connector that applies to all of their other Apple products.

With the iPhone 5 set to dominate the upcoming holiday season, Apple is bracing itself for the anticipated demand. It's unclear how these issues will affect consumers, but the company has developed a loyal fan base that will likely accept the new changes for better or worse.
