This weekend, "Resident Evil: Retribution" debuted to the lowest numbers since the franchise's first film in the US - but this isn't stopping the horror action film from coming out with another sequel. The films may not be huge money makers, but they are pretty consistent, and have earned about 70% of their total gross overseas. These are good-enough reasons to continue with the seemingly everlasting "Resident Evil" series.

The $65 million "Resident Evil: Retribution" movie incorporates a large cast of characters and elements from the games, Capcom's Resident Evil 4 and 5. While many hardcore gamers don't like the movies, there's a huge audience out there, especially worldwide.

The sequel is good news for "Resident Evil" fans, who get to see more slow-motion action and star Milla Jovovich in tight outfits. However, after five installments, even Jovovich herself admits that she has to stop at some point, or at least take a mentoring backseat to a younger lead. But it's confirmed that she will return for the sixth movie along with her husband, director Anderson. There was a time when they had planned on shooting "Resident Evil" 5 and 6 back to back, but Anderson, who has been involved with all five Screen Gems films, scrapped that idea, according to Screen Crush.

Anderson does claim to have an outline for where the next part will go, and expects it to be the final installment. He has said that six movies are equivalent to two full trilogies. He also says that in part six, a lot more of the characters will be killed.

Anderson has also acknowledged that the movie will be influenced by the new "Resident Evil 6" video game. The director says he is looking forward to playing Capcom's Resident Evil 6 game, which will be available in stores October 2.
