Real Madrid didn't have the best luck in La Liga play after falling to Sevilla, but the team has a chance to improve its performance this afternoon in a Champions League match against Manchester City.

The teams are scheduled to meet Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. Eastern time in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho made supportive comments about his team leading up to the match after he publicly criticized their play, which has been somewhat below par in recent matches. Mourinho said he will determine the team's lineup against Manchester City based on skill rather than sending a message to players.

"I will try to field the team that I think will show up. I'm convinced that [Tuesday] I'll have a team out there," Mourinho said. "Maybe we won't be as relaxed, or filled with the same conviction and confidence we usually have against an opponent like City, coming off a game which was terrible. I'm sure we'll be at our best. I could be wrong, but that's what I think."

Mourinho did say that Champions League play is as important to him as other matches, and he looks at these games just like any other.

"The Champions League motivates me as much as the league does. Playing Manchester City motivates me as much as playing Getafe," he said. "It's like any other game. That's just the natural aspect of my job."
