The T20 World Cup is now down to just eight final teams. The first Super 8 match will feature Sri Lanka versus New Zealand at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The 20-over match should set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, Ajantha Mendis is currently out with a side strain. However, ESPN Cric Info is reporting that the 27-year-old cricketer is still aiming to play in the matchup.

"If Mendis is passed fit, then he could replace his replacement Rangana Herath, who played against South Africa. If he isn't, Sri Lanka have to decide between the control Herath offers and the novelty Dananjaya will bring. "

The site also states that Sri Lanka has some other uncertainties in the batting order that need to be addressed before their key matchup.

"The other question is whether Munaweera will continue to partner Tillakaratne Dilshan at the top of the batting order, or whether Jayawardene will promote himself."

Plagued with injuries of their own, New Zealand is hoping that their top-order batsman Martin Guptill will recover in time to take over for youngster Adam Milne.

"New Zealand had played the extra bowler in Adam Milne against Pakistan because their opener Martin Guptill had a hamstring strain. Guptill was expected to recover in time for tomorrow's game so he could replace Mine, who bowled one over for 12 runs."

The weather forecast right before the match is said to be cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. Coverage will begin on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 15:30 SLT.
